Secondary Collaboration Projects

Let's Get Digital with Tech Slams

Let's Get Digital with The Amazing Race

Collaborative projects stemmed from sharing:

  • Hernandez Middle School: [Effective 9/20/13] The Instructional Technology Specialist and Librarian team held a Geek lunch in the library. They covered Tagxedo, thinglink, Scoopit, and how to show YouTube videos without the ads.
  • Westwood High School: [Effective 10/10/13] The Instructional Technology and Librarian teams have collaborative to continue the Westwood Technology Slam tradition. On one Friday a month, the team will offer a lunch tech slam for staff members. Staff is encouraged to present their cool tips and tricks in five minutes or less. All slams will be voted upon using Google + and Edmodo and resources will be made available through those tools as well.
  • Canyon Vista Middle School: [Effective 10/31/13] The Instructional Technology Specialist, Lori Lind and the librarian, Laura Stiles, are hosting Brownie Points for Technology! in the library once a month. During the six teacher lunch periods, teachers can bring their lunch to the library and get a quick rundown on a different topic each month. They'll receive CE credit and we'll have brownies for dessert! Two of the scheduled topics are: Getting to Know Google Drive and Using a Flip Camera and Uploading to Your Youtube Channel. They have also collaborated on creating a reflection video on the book Wonder to share with elementary students to encourage them to read the district book Wonder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gJUDflp1nU
  • Grisham Middle School: [Effective 10/31/13] The Instructional Technology Specialist and Librarian Collaborated on two large projects: Google Dropbox and Language Arts Poetry Skype. For Google Dropbox, they collaborated to determine a system for teachers to create a digital dropbox using Google Forms. Their goal is to have teachers use the digital dropbox in the same way, making it easy for students to submit and share assignments across all subject areas. During our monthly technology embedded staff training, the ITS Sandy McDaniel, used Coach Hart's success with the digital dropbox to train teachers how to create a "dropbox" using Google Forms and demonstrated management strategies for assessing students' digital projects. For the second anniversary of the 7th Grade Language Arts Poetry Skype, the Language Arts teachers, Instructional Technology Specialist, Librarian, and resident poet, Administrative Associate Amanda Johnston, worked together to facilitate poetry readings and conversations with published poets from around the world. The students gathered in the library where they journeyed on virtual field trips to Ireland, London, California, Florida, and Mississippi to meet poets in their homes and workplaces. Thanks to the collaborative efforts using technology, students were able to interact with these poets despite the distance barriers.
  • Hopewell Middle School: [Effective 11/7/13] The Instructional Technology Specialist and Librarian created and implemented a multifaceted nutrition unit using Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Apps, and a Web 2.0 tool: VoiceThread . The 6th grade students researched what it takes to be healthy and created their own personal health goals. Using this information, they created a PowerPoint presentation about the importance of a balanced diet. Students converted the PowerPoint slides to JPEG files and upload the files to VoiceThread. In VoiceThread the students were able to share, collaborate, and comment (audio and text) on each other’s presentations. Student presentations were viewed by parents at Hopewell’s CATCH night. https://voicethread.com/share/5089827/
