About the Project

“IT’S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT’S WHAT YOUR NETWORK KNOWS - IT’S ABOUT COLLABORATING AND BUILDING A LARGER NETWORK”- Christy Fennewald

We will focus on collaboration between the ITS and the librarian in three main projects across the grade levels (link back to TA TEKS etc. to break down the walls of the classroom ):

Digital Learning Day - how to make this a more district event, at high school, make more academy-focused and pair with career counselors (a lot of STEM jobs, but not enough qualified students); at elementary, let students pick areas of interest, bring in speakers f2f or via hangout, have for learning exploring
Website: http://digitallearningday.org/
Date: February 5, 2014 (or you can do it for the whole month of February like Forest North)
  • organize speakers to come share how technology is used in their job
    • check out show_white@dell on Twitter - she’s local in Austin and speaks to schools
  • organize classes to come see speakers (sign up digitally on shared Google doc!)
  • encourage teachers to post evidence of tech in their classroom on shared Edmodo group- ITS teaches lesson for winning classroom on TEK of their choice, earn Edmodo badges
  • NEW: connect with career counselors at school to encourage STEM professions
  • NEW: elem self-select

Tech Slam/Tech Thursdays/EdCamp (call it the Tech Slam) - have an admin present

  • Each teacher signs up for a 5 minute share out
  • Teachers “slam” back-to-back to share various apps, uses, techniques
  • Check out eduslam.me for inspiration
  • Set up a poll via Edmodo OR Google + Community “+1” to vote for best slam
  • Winners receive a badge on Edmodo, ITS will teach lesson for winning classroom on TEK of their choice
